Who we are

In 1957 local farmers and businessmen came together to establish a country club in Holly Hill.  With their combined passion, efforts, and resources, what they built became a local landmark and an oasis for recreation and fellowship.

For over 60 years, the “Holly Hill Golf Club” served families from all over the low country. And, in April of 2021, Michael and Emerald Dennis became one of those families.

Having moved from Charleston’s downtown peninsula, the Dennises were delighted to discover such an oasis, and they spent many days poolside that first summer in Holly Hill.

However, a little more than a year later, despite the collective protests of many community members, the land and structures were abruptly sold to developers and the business was summarily closed.

The Dennis family was devastated, as were over a hundred other formerly active members. The sign on the entrance stated “Closed until further notice.” And, it seemed that was to be the abrupt end to beautiful place and a rich history.

Except it wasn’t.

The idea to recover the portion of the land with the pool and activity rooms was born as the Dennis family continued to drive past the property and felt the loss personally.

An inquiry was sent. A phone call received. And an exploratory dialogue with the new developers was had.

And, against all odds, that was the beginning of what is now a reimagined space for community members to meet, socialize, swim, and play!
